Essay 1

WATER FILTRATION/PURIFICATION

My topic is all about water filtration/purification. Water purification is one of the methods for making our water clean to use and safe to drink. It is also the process of removing pathogenic microorganism in water. Pathogenic microorganisms are those organisms that can cause diseases in human body. As we all know people now a day are depending on water for survival. But because of growth civilization and population rises it makes our water contaminated of some indigenous substances. That’s why all over the world our ancient people are trying their best to make our water contaminated free. And that’s the reason why they invented some process and system to make water clean. "Many of the wars of this [20th] century were about oil, but the wars of the next century will be about water" (History of water filters, 2010).

Back in 2000 BC, Ancient Greek and Sanskrit (India) discovered their first water treatment system. It’s the process of boiling water to make it purified. In early stage of the history after the ancient Greek, are some people trying and proving their self that they can purify water as well. After 1500 BC, Egyptian is trying to use the principle of coagulation process. Coagulation is the process of adding some chemical substances in water to remove organic and inorganic particle suspended in water.

Next in line, the person tried to purified water is Hippocrates. Around 500 BC he invented the bag filter (Hippocratic sleeve) the use of this device is to trap some sediment in water that causes odor and bad taste. In 300–200 BC, Rome invented the device aqueducts, use to carry water to one place to another. But process failed. Around 500-1500 AD this is the century known as dark ages. And the future for water purification is uncertain. For a long period of time, in 1627, Sir Francis Bacon continued the water purification process he used the method of desalination, he tried to remove the salt particle in sea water by using sand filtration. But unfortunately it did not work. But because of him even he failed of trying, his encouragement gives to some scientist to make and try another method of purifying the water. And next to him are Robert Thom, John Simpson, John Snow, and Jean-Antoine Nolett. Nolett tried the use of reverse osmosis for water purification.

Nowadays still people are concern about the water they are consuming. And City’s officials are responsible for providing safety water for all residence. As we can see for today century people are already knowledgeable and informed of what method they are using for making their water safe for the body. One good example is using of filter on everyone house to make water contaminated free. Filter device are now be found in all market worldwide.

In country like United Arab Emirates, there’s a lot of company selling different kinds of filter. Examples of those companies are Aqua Pure Company, Alibba Company and Tradekey Company. They are selling and sometime giving installation free.  Nowadays water crisis is there that’s why some countries are making experimentation and investigation if they can use rain water to drinking water (water sewage). One example is Los Angeles city. City’s official are still having argumentation about this, before they are only using sewage water for irrigation and landscaping. But until now sewage water as drinking are not been sure.  People behind all of this are still trying their best to make everything work. And it will continue to evolve and progress in the future until they got the most effective way of purifying our water.

I therefore conclude that water is the most important substance for all human being to survive. It is our responsibility to take care of it and to use it properly. We should conserve water consumption. We didn’t see how valuable and fragile the water to us but our ancient people does. We are lucky that we are in 2000 century, where all devices have been made. All we need to do is to improve it and to make it useful for everyone.
